Start with about 1–2 tbsp of castor oil. Use a bit more for the first few uses until the fabric becomes naturally saturated, then less each time. Avoid over-saturating — that’s what causes leaks.

The band can be machine washed cold by itself if it’s mostly oil-free — this prevents oil from transferring to other laundry. 

The pack should not be machine washed. You can gently hand wash, but castor oil is hard to remove completely; many customers choose to replace the pack once it’s heavily oiled. If you hand wash, dispose of the water outdoors (not down the drain) and let the pack dry in the sun if possible.

The Better Pack™ features a waterproof outer layer and a wrapped edge for added leak protection. Competing packs are often only water-resistant and stop their barrier at the edge — that’s where leaks happen.
